ALERT: The Illness Challenge

We have had numerous actors missing rehearsals due to illness, with barely a single day able to be rehearsed as planned in the past 10 days.  This paired with the lack of responsibility of many actors to  properly alert us to conflicts - and multiple actors who have not shown up to their call times - has put us in a very tough position.

As a result, I am looking at a contingency plan where we may extend some rehearsal hours to 9:00p on certain days next week (2/4 - 2/7).  The other option to start replacing actors.  In no way is this meant to be punitive; people get sick.  But the show also must go on - and it must go on with a guaranteed level of quality that's come to be expected from Teen West / Southwest StageWorks productions.

In addition, no on should be calling out sick late in the day - finding out at 3:15p that someone cannot attend rehearsal is not okay - it does not allow for schedule adjustments to take place.  It's deeply disrespectful to fellow cast members.

Also, actors who are obviously not prepared in terms of line memorization will potentially be replaced if it's clear they have not been doing their work.

I remain very excited by much of the work in this show.  The majority of participants have been on top of their obligations and have come into rehearsals with a sense of purpose and joy.  We will deliver a very exciting evening of theatre.  But we are falling quickly behind due to a plague of absences.

Stay tuned.
