TW11 - Callback Auditions Announcement

Thank you to all who came out to audition. It was a wonderful two days of work. Each of you should be very proud of your accomplishments. Sadly, it is impossible to cast everyone, and I have had to make some tough decisions.

The following actors are still being considered for roles in On the Subject of Socks. If you are not on this list, I'm afraid you are no longer in the running. I am well aware of how disappointing it is not to see your name - it stinks. But please...do not be that actor who takes this as a judgment about your talent. I saw talent in each and every one of you. Your talent is not in question!!!

These decisions are about what I think is right for this production at this time. For those not called back, I sincerely hope you will consider getting involved in other ways - and that you will always keep auditioning for shows if this is your interest and passion. You owe it to yourselves to keep putting yourselves out there.

Even if you have already emailed me about a conflict on 10/7, please email again just to remind me of when you need to leave (if you need to leave early); there have been many changes for some of you in terms of your conflicts, and I want to make sure I have all the correct info. Final Reminder: Cast/Crew Production Fee

This is CALL #3 reminding everyone that Cast/Crew/Management have a Production Fee to take care of to support our production...$100 for Actors/$25 for Crew/Management, committed to when you turned in your Audition Forms/Crew Applications.  Please either take care of this with the bookkeeper directly in the main office, or online through SchoolPay through the below links ASAP (since you're already late):

Cast: CAST SCHOOLPAY LINK

Crew: CREW SCHOOLPAY LINK

At this stage, the bookkeeper only has production fee records from the following people (please check with her if you believe you've paid and don't see your name below):

Cast: Katie D, Ania L, Olivia P, Kyle S, Joeyy W, Eli M, Ella H

Crew: Elodie A, Maya H, Simone T, Addison FG, Emma O, Helena S

I will be turning in any unpaid production fees to the Main Office as student charges at the opening of the show.  Remember: Any unpaid student charges prevent you from participating in major school events, including Prom, Senior Awards, and, potentially, receiving your Diploma.  I am sorry at this point to be pulling the nuclear card, but at this point, entering Tech Week, to only have 1/4 of the cast and crew (specifically 26.7%, or 15 of 56) having taken care of their obligations after 6 weeks of the production process is impeding our ability to produce our show, as we rely on these funds.

Please do this TODAY if possible.  If there is a financial challenge for your family (read: if your family qualifies for free/reduced lunches/fees here at IBWHS, or there has been a major life event recently demanding additional resources), please contact me and we can make other arrangements.

Thanks to the folks who've gotten this taken care of.  Hugely appreciated!

TW10 - "Where Do We Go?" - Unmasked

I had not made a final decision about whether the song "Where Do We Go?" should be masked or unmasked in terms of costumes.

It is clear from rehearsals (and listening) that the only way it can be performed is without masks. We simply can't hear well enough - and the sound is terribly muffled (and will be even more muddy in the costume masks). It also makes the most sense from the playwright's intention - given all students unmask to say their names in the ritual - then all come together to sing. It makes no thematic sense for the fellow students to cover their faces again for the song.

So, once you remove your mask to say your name, you should keep it off and in your hand until the end of Microphone.

I feel that, given all are facing downstage when they sing - and are not facing each other - and given it's only a 2:30 song - this is quite safe. And given other schools are doing full musicals completely unmasked for the entire show - this is well within standards at PPS. That said, if anyone is deeply uncomfortable having to sing unmasked in this moment of the show, come talk to me. There may be some solutions, but they will involve a change in that individual's stage position - or even potentially having to sing off stage.
